Five Bodils for Antichrist, four Cannons for Upperdog

dominated yesterday’s Bodil Awards ceremony, organised by the Danish Film Critics Association in Copenhagen. A few days earlier, in Trondheim, Norway, Norwegian film Upperdog [+see also:

by Sara Johnsen was the biggest winner at the industry’s annual Cannon awards.

The most extreme Danish film of 2009 was also the most celebrated by the entire Danish film industry. After its seven Roberts awards from the Danish Film Academy last month, Antichrist won five Bodils: Best Danish Film, Best Actress (Charlotte Gainsbourg), Best Actor (Willem Dafoe) Best Cinematographer (Anthony Dod Mantle) and Best Sound Design (Kristian Eidne Andersen). Not surprisingly, von Trier did not show up at the annual industry gathering, instead sending his wife Bente von Trier to pick up the top award.

won two Bodils, for Best Supporting Actor Jens Andersen and Best Supporting Actress Pernille Vallentin. Animated films Up and Waltz with Bashir [+see also:

won Best US film and Best Non-US film, respectively.

At last week’s Cannon Awards, given out by the Norwegian film industry, Upperdog won Best Film, Best Original Screenplay (Johnsen), Best Editing (Zaklina Stojcevska) and Best Cinematography (John Andreas Andersen).

was awarded three Cannons, for Best Producers (Sigve Endresen and Brede Hovland from Motlys), Best Actor (Anders Baasmo Christiansen) and Best Sound Design (Bent Holm). Margreth Olin was awarded Best Newcomer for her feature debut The Angel [+see also:

and her leading actress Maria Bonnevie won in her category for her performance as a drug addict.
