The Blacks wins Crossing Europe in Linz

by Zvonimir Juric and Goran Devic won the main prize at Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz (Apr 20-25), worth €10,000. This adds to the film’s string of awards, which includes wins at LIFFe in Ljubljana and the Belgrade Festival of Auteur Film, the FIPRESCI Prize at Cottbus and Best Director in Cottbus and Pula.

The festival’s newly established Best European Documentary Award went to Erik Gandini’s Videocracy [+see also:

. The prize comprises the purchase of broadcasting rights for the film by ORF.

(Switzerland/France) won the Audience Award and €5,000 worth of promotional space in the festival’s partner magazine ray. The film previously won the FIPRESCI and Ecumenical Jury prizes and a special mention at Mannheim-Heidelberg, as well as best film and best actor at the Swiss Film Prizes.

The Local Artist Award worth €6,000 donated by the Federal Province of Upper Austria and Synchro Film, Video und Audio Bearbeitung GmbH from Vienna was shared by Michaela Mandel for the stop-motion short Sinister Sisters Slaughterhouse and Ella Raidel for Slam Video Maputo.

The next edition of the festival will take place a week earlier in 2011 due to Easter holidays.
