First four months of 2010 good thanks to 3D
According to Cinetel data (which covers 90% of the Italian market), 7.354 million cinema tickets were sold in April 2010, a 4.45.% drop compared to April 2009. However, due to higher ticket prices of 3D screenings there was a 2.82% increase in box office, for a total €48.48m, a 2.81% increase over April 2009.
Overall, cinema is doing well in Italy. The first four months saw over 46 million admissions, for an increase of 21.79%; with box office results – because of 3D – rising by 37.04%.
Domestic films and co-productions are performing better in 2010, and snagged 32.79% of all admissions in the Cinetel survey in the first four months of the year (over 29.56% in 2009). The figures for the market share of US films remained essentially the same: 58.25% in the four first months of this year, and 58.73% in the same period last year.
The top grossers of April were Clash of the Titans (UK, distributed by Warner Bros), with €6.4m; La Vita è una Cosa Meravigliosa (Italy, Medusa), with €4.58m; Dragon Trainer (US, Universal), with €3.77m; L’uomo nell’ombra (France, 01 Distribution), with €3m; and Happy Family [+see also:
