Polish director-scriptwriter Pawel Pawlikowski has been awarded the 2010 MEDIA European Talent Prize for his third feature film, Sister of Mercy.

Producers Eric Abraham and Janine Gold received the prize on behalf of Pawlikowski, who could not attend the ceremony, from European Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou.

Vassiliou, who is participating at the Cannes Film Festival for the first time this year, described the film as a “truly European work. Pawel is a director of Polish origin who lives in the United Kingdom and the film is produced by a Danish company, Phoenix Films.”
