Scripted by the two directors, the film is set during the winter of 1922. Nicole, a young novelist who has run out of inspiration, decides to go away alone to the countryside to write her new book in peace. When she discovers a sealed-off room in the basement of the house, she starts writing with disturbing ease.

Produced by Alain Benguigui and Thomas Verhaeghe for Sombrero Films, Behind the Walls has received pre-acquisitions from Canal +, Orange Cinéma Séries (second distribution window) and Ciné Cinéma (third distribution window), backing from the Auvergne and Poitou-Charentes regions, and the Vienne county.

Shooting is scheduled to last 35 days. Bac Films will release the film in French theatres, while Roissy Films is handling international sales.

On Friday, Sombrero Films will also wrap shooting on Pierre Lacan’s French/Belgian co-production Pour Solde de Tout Compte (“In Full and Final Settlement”, see news). Meanwhile, another of the company’s productions, Yann Gozlan’s Caged, will be launched in theatres by Bac Films on October 6.
