FESTIVALS Italy

The very best of TV at Rome’s Fiction Fest

by

The 4th Roma Fiction Fest, dedicated to television, will take place July 5-10 and is organised by the Roberto Rossellini Audiovisual Foundation and promoted by the Lazio Region, the Television Producers Association (APT) and the Rome Chamber of Commerce.

As always, there are many points of interest at what is, according to Artistic Director Steve Della Casa, the festival’s “best edition”, which brings to the Italian capital local and international guests, including Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others [+see also:

Della Casa adds that their goal is to offer “a young and popular festival that presents the best, and only the best, of television fiction”. In all its forms, as proven by the International Competition, divided into three sub-sections: TV Drama, Factual TV and TV Comedy (which includes Maurizio Nichetti’s new mini-series, Agata e Ulisse).

It is no surprise that “light” programmes of pure entertainment are flanked by works with stronger themes (like Giacomo Campiotti’s Il Sorteggio, on the first trial of the Red Brigades), while the sidebar Music Files looks at the “contamination” between music, TV and cinema, and features, among various titles, the documentary Stones in Exile and the world premiere of British biopic Lennon: Naked by Edmund Coulthard.

Last, but not least, with over 40 countries in attendance, Industry Week offers more opportunities than ever before for industry professionals to meet, talk shop and do business.
