Killi leaves behind Angry Man for Prima Ballerina

by

Animation filmmaker Anita Killi, who won the Special Jury Prize at Annecy earlier this month for her short film Angry Man, will direct her first feature-length animated film, Prima Ballerina, for Zentropa Norway.

Born in Stavanger in 1968, Killi studied graphic design and illustration at Kunsthøgskole in Oslo (KHIO), and animation at Volda University College. After completing her education, she founded her own animation studio Trollfilm AS for which she directed several short animated films, often adapted from children’s books.

At the 2010 Annecy International Animated Film Festival Angry Man also won the Audience and UNICEF awards. Killi was recently awarded a three-year Arts Council scholarship from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.

Prima Ballerina tells the story of a little girl from a small farm who, inspired by her mother, learns to follow her biggest and wildest dreams. The film is aimed at children aged five to eleven.

Zentropa Norway, headed by Valerie Saunders, has several other projects in the works, including Faith, based on a script by Krzysztof Piesiewicz, to be directed by Unni Straume.
