FUNDING Sweden

Runge, von Trier, Sletaune and Lien among new SFI recipients

by

In its latest round of production support, the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) has given out SEK28.1m (around €3.2m) to ten new feature films, including the latest projects by Björn Runge, Lars von Trier, Pål Stelaune and Jens Lien.

The biggest grant of SEK7m (around €732,000) went to Runge’s Happy End, written by established Danish scriptwriter Kim Fupz Aakeson and produced by Zentropa’s Swedish branch Trollhättan Film. It tells the story of people who have little in common – a driving instructor with a mentally unstable son and a young cleaning lady who lives with an authoritative man – but whose encounter will be vitally important for both their lives.

Two mainstream Swedish films produced by Sonet Film were awarded SEK6m (around €630,000) each: Kjell Sundvall’s thriller Jägarna 2 (Hunters 2) and Lena Koppel’s drama Hur många lingon finns det i världen (“How Many Cowberries Are There in the World”), loosely based on a successful theatre play.

Writer director Alexandra-Therese Keinig was awarded SEK3.5m (€366,000) for Kyss Mig (Kiss Me), the story of the young Mia who questions her own sexuality when she falls in love with her new stepsister. Lebox Produktion is producing.

Atmo (Metropia) received SEK 2,750,000 for Apflickorna (“Ape Girls”) described as “a modern western about power, sex and animals”, with Lisa Aschan directing. Ulrika BengtsIris (Street Movies) will be a film about child-parent relationships.

The SFI also supported two Norwegian films – Lien’s Theory and Practice [+see also:
