Pyramide launches Ozpetek’s Loose Cannons

Unveiled at a special screening in the Panorama section at the 2010 Berlinale, Italian director Ferzan Ozpetek’s domestic box office hit Loose Cannons [+see also:

(see review from its Italian release in March) is being launched today in France by Pyramide on around 85 screens.

The film starring Riccardo Scamarcio centres on the complicated coming-out by the son of a family who own a pasta factory in Apulia. It is being promoted by its French distributor under the slogan "an al dente comedy".

Non-domestic European films are well-represented among this Wednesday’s 11 new releases, including Antonio Naharro and Alvaro Pastor’s Spanish feature Me Too [+see also:

. Winner of the Golden Iris at the recent Brussels Film Festival (see news), the title also earned Best Actress for Lola Dueñas at the latest Goya Awards. It is being released by Happiness Distribution on almost 50 screens.

by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (see news, Tamasa Distribution on about ten screens). The film is loosely based on Anton Chekhov’s stage play Ivanov and was Iceland’s entry for the 2009 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nomination race.

French cinema is represented in the line-up by Manuel Pradal’s The Blonde with Bare Breasts (see news), featuring Nicolas Duvauchelle, Vahina Giocante and Steve le Roi (distribution: Eurozoom); and Jean-Michel Bertrand’s documentary Vertige d’une Rencontre (“Vertigo of an Encounter”, MC4 Distribution).

Finally, also hitting screens are titles from China, Mexico, Argentina and the United States (including blockbuster Inception).
