40% increase in film shoots in Bavaria

by

Measures aimed at attracting and providing more opportunities for film shoots in the federal state of Bavaria are starting to reap results. With 35 productions for film and 61 for TV, there has been a 40% increase in the number of productions compared to the same period the previous year.

The different authorities set themselves some objectives in 2008 at the Munich Film Festival. Since then, a film permit office for shoots in the city of Munich has been set up, the network of locations in the region has been strengthened and greater support has been obtained from the Bavarian State and city of Munich. Likewise, workshops, location tours, presentations and popular initiatives have been organised, transforming Bavaria into the favourite region in Germany for shooting film and television productions.

The regional government also aims to give new impetus to Bavaria as a film shoot location, putting the emphasis on internationalisation and boosting support for new talents.

At the same time, FFF Bayern (Bavarian Film Fund) has launched its latest, third edition of the guide to production in the region (Film Production Manual – Munich and Bavaria). FFF director Klaus Schaefer has described it as “significantly more extensive, owing on the one hand to the increased demand for Bavarian locations and, on the other, to the growth in film infrastructures, for example in the field of post-production (…), digital animation and 3D”. The guide will be available to professionals in the sector at conferences, trade fairs and other film industry events.
