Shooting stars on Marina Spada’s Metafisica per le scimmie

by

Filming began just days ago on Metafisica per le scimmie (“Metaphysics for Monkeys”), the latest film by Marina Spada, starring Claudia Gerini alongside Raffaele Pisu, Claudia Coli, Lino Guanciale and Paolo Pierobon. The seven-week shoot will take place in Italy (in Milan and the province of Pavia) and Greece.

The Milan-born director, who received much critical acclaim with her previous feature, As the Shadow, last year made the documentary Poetry You See Me, on the work of poet Antonia Pozzi, who killed herself at a young age. Both films debuted in Venice Days at the Venice Film Festival.

The film, written by Spada, Daniele Maggioni and Maria Grazia Perria, centres on Monica, who works as a resources and training consultant in Milan. She is in a steady relationship, has a successful career and keeps contact with her father, who lives alone in the small town in which she was born. But her balanced will prove to be only a façade.

Francesco Pamphili is producing for Film Kairos with RAI Cinema and the collaboration of the Lombardia Film Commission. The film was deemed of national cultural interest and as such received a contribution from the Ministry of Culture.

Metafisica per le scimmie is lensed by Sabina Bologna and Giorgio Carella and features the artistic collaboration of renowned photographer Gabriele Basilico. All three also worked on As the Shadow. Editor is Carlotta Cristiani, while the music will be scored by the celebrated jazz musician Paolo Fresu.
