Fantoche showcases animated film in all its forms

The now annual event, the 8th Fantoche Animated Film Festival kicks off today in Baden. Running until September 12, it will screen such features as The Illusionnist [+see also:

by Sylvain Chomet, Fantastic Mr. Fox by Wes Anderson ou la critique sociale Piercing I by Chinese helmer Liu Jian. Comic strip author Don Herztfeldt will present his animated films.

International competition is proposing current productions, while parallel sections are offering transversal themes such as the fairytale. Lastly, in Swiss competitions, Baka!! by Immanuel Wagner, Peng! by Alex Stoop and Ma vie de courgette by Claude Barras are all eagerly awaited.

The most important animated film festival in Switzerland organises numerous round tables, notably around game design. Duscha Kistler, artistic director of Fantoche, affirms that “filmmakers increasingly have to draw from new ideas in the independent production of computer games, a field where animation is approached with an extraordinary freedom and where styles and techniques are combined freely. Animated film can only be enriched as a result.
