Entertainment world to shut down in protest next Monday

by

The entire entertainment industry will stop working Monday, November 22. The top union organizations have announced a general strike against the cuts to the 2011 Budget Law, and against "political inactivity with regard to system reforms and to save jobs".

The film industry’s fight against budget cuts to culture recently culminated in the occupation of the red carpet on the opening night of the Rome Film Festival. Monday, movie theatres, along with film and television sets, post-production houses, service companies and so forth will all shut down.

"For the first time, we have the solidarity of the producers and exhibitors of the AGIS and ANICA associations," says secretary of the CGIL Union, Silvano Conti. Their requests include a national law for the sector, increasing the Entertainment Industry Fund back to the 2008 level of €450m, and reinstating the tax shelter and tax credit.
