Shorts Danny Boy, Animated History of Poland submitted for consideration
According to the US-based website Cartoonbrew, the latest films by two Polish filmmakers – Marek Skrobecki’s Danny Boy and Animated History of Poland by Tomasz Bagiński – are among 33 titles that fulfilled the necessary qualifications to be considered for an Academy Award nomination in the Best Animated Short category.
The Polish/Swiss title Danny Boy (co-produced by Se-ma-for and Archangel) has so far received the "Narcisse" H.R. Giger Award at the Neuchâtel Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, and the 2nd Audience Award at the Solothurn Film Festival, also in Switzerland.
The short film was produced with financial support from the Polish Film Institute and Łódź City Hall.
Animated History of Poland, made for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai by Platige Image, has received the 2010 Animago Award for Best Visualisation.
Members of the Short Films and Feature Animations branch of the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences will vote to select first a shortlist of ten titles, and then, in a following round of voting, will choose the five final nominees. The final vote is open to all Academy members who have seen all titles nominated in a given category.
The complete list of preselected titles is available at Cartoonbrew.
