"Exception" for quality cinema

- A new film services company for independent producers is set up by four former StudioCanal managers

“Exception” is a new French services company for European film production and international distribution set up by four former managers at StudioCanal, Vincent Grimont, Brahim Chioua, Vincent Maraval and Alain de la Matta. The goal of Exception is to collect funding that will strengthen the international potential of auteur-driven films, most of which are currently only seen in their domestic markets.
The four founders of Exception have, between them, a vast experience of the industry. After working for StudioCanal as a manager,Vincent Grimond became the French representative of Vivendi Universal in Los Angeles while Brahim Chioua, Vincent Marval and Alain de la Matta (the latter based in London) developed international distributor, Wild Bunch, now incorporated in Exception.
StudioCanal will continue to work with its affiliate, Wild Bunch, and has issued the company with 80 sales mandates, 25 of which for the next edition of Mifed.
Thanks to its close ties with Wild Bunch, the prospects for Exception are good: they are handling the international sales for the forthcoming films by André Téchiné, Emir Kusturica and Alain Corneau.
