Charlie Butterfly gets a second chance
The Danes had a bit of a surprise during the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival. The festival’s audience chose two films to be awarded and one of them turned out to be Charlie Butterfly, a feature debut by Polish born director Dariusz Steiness, released in Denmark this summer with very little interest among the Danish public, so little that only 284 tickets got sold.
This poetic music drama produced by Zentropa got though its second chance at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Festival, chosen along with the Australian film The Spanish Woman as the festival’s best films.
The next film project the Danish adopted director is planning on making will include the same characters as in Charlie Butterfly.
