FESTIVALS Germany

Sweden muscles in on market

by

Sweden is to strengthen its ties to Germany. On 22 November Sweden’s minister for culture will inaugurate the very first Swedish Film Week in Berlin, in what is hoped will become an annual event. The Swedish Film Institute considers Germany to be its most important market outside of the Nordic region. Sweden has numerous commercial partners in Germany and the two countries share historical links too. Now the Swedish film industry has decided to actively target Germany. To that end, the SFI will initiate a three-year campaign of promoting Swedish films in Germany with next week's Swedish Film Week. The programme includes recent productions including Richard Hobert`s Alla alskar Alice (Everyone Loves Alice), Kjell Sundvall`s Grabben i graven bredvid (The Guy in the Grave Next Door) and Colin Nutley`s Sprangaren (Deadline). All screenings will take place at the Arsenal Cinema in the Filmhaus in Potsdamer Platz.
