FESTIVALS Netherlands

Danes at IDFA

by

- After winning last year’s top prize, the Danish contingent returns to Amsterdam with 12 documentaries

A team of Danish documentary makers, producers, promotion and sales managers will attend the International Documentary Film Festival - IDFA, in Amsterdam from 21 November–1 December.
Having won the top award at last year’s edition of this festival for Family by Phie Ambo and Sami Saif, the Danes are hoping for a repeat performance this year when they will have over a dozen films competing in the various categories. Most of the films taking part were made with support from the Danish Film Institute and range from educational documentaries for children to international co-productions. The most eagerly awaited documentary has to be New Scenes From America. It was made in September 2001 by Jorgen Leth and features famous artists like poet John Ashbery, composer John Cale, actor Dennis Hopper and photographer Robert Franks. Leth describes this film as “an eccentric tour of the United States”.
