Die Manns wins best film/series Emmy

by

Seventeen years after Wolfgang Petersen’s victory with Das Boot, a three-part German film for television entitled Die Manns – Ein Jahrhundertroman has won the Emmy for best “International Films/ Mini-series”. The Emmys are the American television equivalent of the Oscars.
Die Manns is based on the eponymous novel about Germany’s pre-eminent literary family whose most famous exponent was Thomas Mann. The film is a medley of interviews and recollections by Mann’s contemporaries, and dramatised scenes.
Director Heinrich Breloer picked up the award in New York with Michael Weber of Bavaria Film International who co-financed the project with WDR, NDR, BR, ARTE and ORF.
