PRODUCTION Denmark

No more Dogma

- ASA Film and Easy Film are setting up a new Danish filmmaking style with five titles in the pipeline

A new strong presence is making itself felt in the Danish filmmaking panorama. Two huge production companies, ASA and Easy Film have decided to launch a completely new style of making Danish films that is as distant from the Dogma Manifesto as possible.
To that end they have earmarked 100 million DKR to create new alternatives, and innovate the Danish film scene, many of whose recent productions were heavily influenced by the tenets of Dogma.
"We are not going to be working under any strict rules like the ones in the Dogma Manifesto so we can do what ever we want to, allowing us to work with greater variety of films," said Easy Film’s director Niels Bokkenheuser in an interview with Danish newspaper "Politiken". Easy Film and Asa Film are already working on five projects scheduled to be produced over the next few years, the first of which is a low-cost thriller entitled The Recovery, directed by Ole Bornedal who won a screenplay award from Danish national broadcaster, Denmark’s Radio. It will be followed by a more expensive production, Dagen og vejen directed by Jorn Faurschou and based on a novel by Danish author, Jophn Nehms. Scanbox will distribute the first five films made under the new system.
