by

The 24th edition of “KINO 2002: New German Cinema”, organised by Moma (Museum of Modern Art) and Germany’s Export Union at New York’s Gramercy Theatre from 8-17 November was a success with a 10 per cent increase in visitors on last year. The programme included a good selection of recent German features and documentaries and was inaugurated by a packed-out screening of the Emmy winning 3-part TV series, Die Manns - Ein Jahrhundertroman (The Manns). The story of one of Germany’s pre-eminent literary family won in the best TV series/movie category. Needless to say the film got an excellent reception from the audience that included the screenwriter Prof. Dr. Horst Königstein.
Other guests at this event included Iain Dilthey (Ich werde dich auf Händen tragen (I’ll Wait On You Hand and Foot) accompanied by his star, Manfred Kranich; Robert Fischer presented Fassbinder in Hollywood with his male lead, Uli Lommel; Gerd Conradt and his producer, Harmut Jahn presented their documentary Starbuck Holger Meins.
Germany’s candidate for the Best Foreign Film Oscar, Caroline Link’s Nirgendwo in Afrika was a special event, as was Mein Bruder der Vampir (Getting My Brother Laid) by Sven Taddicken, Urs Egger’s Epsteins Nacht and Andreas Dresen’s Halbe Treppe (Grill Point).
