TRIBUTE UK

All-new Metropolis out

by

The classic German silent film, Metropolis, has been restored to its original 1927 premiere condition and will be screened at the National Film Theatre (NFT) in London for two weeks starting on January 17.
This is the first time in 75 years that Fritz Lang’s most celebrated film, considered revolutionary when it first came out because of its cast of thousands of extras and the futuristic sets, will be screened in its full length, thanks to the work of two German film restoration specialists, Enno Patalas and Martin Körber. They used the best material from surviving prints of Metropolis, including one stored in the UK, to restore the film to its original spectacular visual glory.
Following the NFT special screenings, classic film fans will have the opportunity to see Metropolis in Edinburgh, Dublin, Cork, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Brighton.
