2003 promises to be a busy year for French production company, Gemini Films, headed by Paulo Branco, with eight features currently in either pre-, post-, or production proper. They include the latest eagerly awaited offerings from Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, Manoel de Oliveira and Chantal Akerman.
Co-produced by Italy’s Interlinea and Switzerland’s Light Night, Au royaume des yeux, currently in post-production, is Bruni Tedeschi’s directorial debut. She also stars in the film opposite Chiara Mastroianni, Jean-Hughes Anglade, Emmanuelle Devos, Lambert Wilson and Yvan Attal.
In November, veteran Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira will begin shooting Un film parlant, co-produced by France2 Cinéma, Mikado Films and Portugal's Madragoa Filmes. De Oliveira’s formidable cast includes John Malkovich, Catherine Deneuve, Stefania Sandrelli and Irene Papas and the film will be made on location in Lisbon, Cairo, Marseille, Naples, Tangiers, Istanbul and Athens.
