by

- Although there are plenty of films from America, Asia and Africa, this year European cinema has taken the lion's share, with nine title selected for competition so far

The list of the films chosen for the 53rd edition of the Berlinale -(6-16 February) is getting longer. Alongside numerous films from America, Asia and Africa, European cinema dominates this year's selection for the official competition with a total of nine so far.
The programme features the world premieres of 3 German films: Good bye, Lenin by Wolfgang Becker, starring Daniel Brühl and Katrin Sass, Der alte Affe Angst by Oskar Roehler, and Hans-Christian Schmid's Lichter.
Three French films were selected: The Flower of Evil by Claude Chabrol starring Benoît Magimel and Nathalie Baye, Petites Coupures by Pascal Bonitzer with Daniel Auteuil and Kristin Scott Thomas, and Son frère by Patrice Chéreau, winner of the Golden Bear in 2001 with Intimacy.
For the moment there is just one British title, but it is an exceptionally strong one, Alan Parker's The Life of David Gale, an American co-production starring two huge global talents like Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet.
