by Pedro Almodovar won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film in Hollywood last night.
The Spanish film director made a heartfelt plea for world peace in his acceptance speech and received a standing ovation from the audience.
Assigned by Hollywood's foreign press corps, the Globes are considered to be an important precursor of the Oscars.
Martin Scorsese won the best director Globe for his epic Gangs of New York but the night belonged to the muscial comedy, Chicago, which won best picture, actor and actress in a musical comedy, respectively for Richard Gere and Renée Zellweger.
