An Angel's victory

The Trømso International Film Festival came to an end last weekend with the presentation of the “Aurora” Awards. Tagiki film director Jamshed Usmonov won best film, and a cash prize of DKR75,000 (Euros10,000), for his The Angel on My Right. Co-produced by Italy (Fabrica Cinema) Switzerland (Ventura Films), France (ArtCam International) and with support from a number of foundations and state funding, the film was also selected for Un Certain Regard at last year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The inaugural film, Salmer fra kjokkenet (Hymns From The Kitchen) by the festival’s special guest of honour, Bent Hamers won the Fipresci international film critics’ award while the Audience award went to Iceland’s Baltasar Kormàkur and his familial drama entitled Hafid [+see also:

(The SEa), scheduled to be released in Norway in April.
Once again, the Trømso attendance set a new record with over 38,000 tickets sold (2000 more than 2002) for the 85 films screened.
