Spain’s Pedro Almodòvar could suddenly find himself in the running for a couple of Oscars in the best director and screenplay categories for his Golden Globe-winning Hable Con Ella [+see also:

film profile] (Speak To Her). This is the Iberian director’s second Globe victory and a clear sign of America’s ongoing love affair with his films. However, Hable Con Ella was not selected by the Spanish Academy of Film Arts and Sciences to represent the country in the best foreign film category on 23 March; that honour went to Los Lunes al sol [+see also:

film profile]. However the extraordinary popularity of Almodòvar’s film may well cause the Academy to change the criteria governing the foreign film category selection process.
