Ready, steady, go! The 53rd Berlinale about to unroll. A veritable marathon that will see 300 films screened over 10 days that has begun yesterday with the gala screening of Rob Marshall’s Chicago, a monster success in America. The stellar cast is in Berlin for the event in the central Potsdamer Platz: Marshall, and his cast: Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger.

Berlin has always showcased American cinema and this year will be no different although there is also a strong European contingent. Michael Winterbottom’s In this world will open the Competition on 7 February, followed by two more UK titles, three French and three German ones, one each from Italy, Slovenia, Spain and Holland. Europe is especially strong in the other sections of this festival.
