The Hypnotist focuses on crime investigator Joona Linna who hires a hypnotist to elucidate a crime. “This is without doubt a dream project coming true. The Hypnotist is a fantastic crime novel and to have Lasse Hallström on board as the director is very exciting,” said Hansson, head of production for AB Svensk Filmindustri, and Possne, head of Sonet Film.

Hallström, who was Oscar-nominated in 1988 for My Life as a Dog and in 2000 for The Cider House Rules, hasn’t directed a Swedish film in 24 years.

The Hypnotist will start principal photography next winter. The domestic release is scheduled for autumn 2012.
