A Belgian short is nominated

Belgium will be represented at Cinema’s Big Night – the Oscars by a short film entitled Fait d’hiver (A Winter Event) by Dirk Belien (produced by Another Dimension of An Idea). This occasionally dramatic comedy won awards at several major European film events from Vallodolid to Woodstock, Gand to Malmö and Saint-Louis. The film is about a man (played by Tom Van Dyck) who gets stuck in a traffic jam and calls his girlfriend on his new cellular phone... with disastrous results.

The Netherlands’ i>Zus & Zo by Paula van der Oest (Filmproduktier De Luwte) was one of the lucky five titles chosen to compete for the foreign language film Oscar unlike the Belgian Dardenne brothers’ The Son [+see also:

and Luxembourg’s Petites misères by Philippe Boon and Laurent Brandenbourger .
