Franco-German committee awards €1.135m to five projects

On Monday, March 28, the Franco-German co-production support committee gathered in Paris to award a total of €1,135,000 to five projects, two majority German co-productions and three French-based companies.

), Ludwig II, which is 70% produced by Bavaria Pictures with a 10% contribution from French company Pampa Productions, obtained €175,000 and €50,000 for each company, respectively. Scripted by the director and his wife Marie Noelle, the film coincides with the 125th anniversary of Ludwig II’s suspicious death. It will start shooting this summer.

Cologne-based Augenschein Filmproduktion received €70,000 for documentary filmmaker Wilm Huygen’s Hinter der Spitze – Tour du Faso, which it is co-producing (70%) with Paris-based La Huit (€30,000 for 30% co-production).

Arnaud des Pallières’s project Michael Kohlhaas received the largest amount of funding – €150,000 for French company Les Films d'Ici (79%) and €140,000 for its Berlin-based counterpart Looks Filmproduktion (21%).

Anne Weil and Philippe Kotlarski’s Friends From France was granted €170,000 on the French side (Les Films du Poisson, 63%) and €100,000 on the German side (vandertastic – Hanneke van der Tas, 27%).

Finally, Atiq Rahimi’s Syngue Sabor – Stein der Geduld obtained €170,000 for its Paris-based producer The Film (70%), and €80,000 for German company Razor Film Produktion (20%).

The deadline for submitting applications for the next round of co-production funding has been set at May 11. The Franco-German committee will meet again on July 8 in Berlin.
