Chang-dong, Skolimowski head newly established juries

Traditionally awarded after a vote by journalists, the Grand Prize at the 50th International Critics’ Week(SIC), which will run from May 12-20 at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, will be decided for the first time by a jury.

Comprising four critics, the jury will be headed by South Korean director Lee Chang-dong. Winner of Best Screenplay for Poetry at last year’s Cannes Festival, the director was selected in the Directors’ Fortnight in 2000 with Peppermint Candy. He also took part in the official competition in 2007 with Secret Sunshine (Best Actress Award).

The Critics’ Week short film competition will also be judged by a jury headed by Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski. His latest feature, Essential Killing [+see also:

, was launched yesterday in French theatres, to unanimous appraise from critics.

The Critics’ Week will unveil its 2011 selection online on the evening of April 18.

The Cannes Festival official selection will be announced on April 14 and the Directors’ Fortnight line-up on April 19.
