FESTIVALS Germany

Dresden, never short on shorts

by

The 23rd Dresden International Short Film Festival (April 12-17) will open on Tuesday for an exciting edition. It will screen a total of 300 films representing 33 countries and, as always, will host numerous parallel events alongside the many sections, which aim to show all facets of the short format and reach out to all audiences.

In ten international and national competitions, 76 titles with a runtime of under 30 minutes (chosen from among about 2,000 submissions) will vie for the festival’s many prizes, including nine Golden Horseman Awards.

Dresden is also hosting no fewer than 28 parallel sections, including a close-up on British shorts, Birds, Beasts & Bugs; a selection of Francophone short films on the theme of "Erotic Incidents"; and a retrospective entitled "Weibsbilder" which looks back at production during the GDR era.
