An eight-week shoot has kicked off in Rome on A.C.A.B., the cinematic debut of Stefano Sollima, director of the popular TV series Romanzo Criminale. Produced by Cattleya in collaboration with RAI Cinema, and co-produced by France’s Babe Films, the film stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Filippo Nigro and Marco Giallini as Cobra, Negro and Mazinga, three vice cops who battle the streets and violence daily.

The cast also features Domenico Diele as Adriano, and Andrea Sartoretti, ("Bufalo" from Romanzo Criminale) as former police officer Carletto.

Based on the eponymous novel by Carlo Bonini, from a true story, A.C.A.B. stands for All Cops Are Bastards, the motto of the British skinhead movement of the 1970s that over the years has become a universal call to urban guerilla warfare. The edgy cop drama explores the controversial world of a vice squad, looked upon coolly by their peers and with suspicion by citizens.

In their work, Cobra, Negro and Mazinga earn a lot of enemies, but are also proud to fight violence, even with force. Through their stories, the film touches upon important episodes of recent Italian history, from the G8 summit in Genoa (during which a demonstrator was killed by a Carabiniere) to the death of Gabriele Sandri (a young football fan shot by an officer during a fight), in a short circuit that is reflected in the characters’ private and professional lives.
