Shooting wraps in Mallorca on The Pelayos

by

Tomorrow, Catalan director Eduard Cortes (photo) will wrap shooting in Mallorca on his fourth feature, The Pelayos, which is based on the true story of the García-Pelayo family, who managed to win hundreds of millions at roulette all over the world, in a simple and legal way. They “broke the bank” of casinos on five continents, from Amsterdam to Las Vegas, from Australia to Paris, via Madrid and Macao.

Produced by Alea Docs & Films and Bausan Films, the movie blends action, humour, adventure and suspense. One of its strong points is the cast, which includes two of Spain’s most sought-after actors, Lluis Homar and Miguel Ángel Silvestre, German thesp Daniel Brühl, Oriol Vila, Blanca Suárez, Vicente Romero, Huichi Chiu and Marina Salas.

Scripted by Cortés and Piti Español, the film centres on some youngsters with few prospects for the future who are presented with a great opportunity to change their luck and enjoy an adventure that will become a way of life that is totally against the grain: busting the bank of the world’s casinos with an infallible method based on the flaws of roulette.

The shoot has lasted eight weeks in the Gran Casino in Lloret de Mar and locations in Barcelona and Mallorca.

The Pelayos received support from the ICIC and ICAA, and backing from TV3, TVE and Canal+.
