Ruman adds autobiographical elements to Igor and the Cranes’ Journey

Co-produced by Israel’s United Channels Movies, Poland’s Yeti and Germany’s Ulysses Filmproduktion, Evgeny Ruman’s debut feature Igor and the Cranes’ Journey started shooting a few days ago in Poland.

Scripted by Dity Guery, Igor and the Cranes’ Journey is based on Acky Shavit’s homonymous novel. Igor is a young boy from Moscow who emigrates with his mother to Israel, where he has to adapt to a new life.

This change brings him closer to his father. They both share the same fascination: they follow Karl, a young crane on its migration route between Siberia and Africa.

As the director points out, it’s a film about growing up, about life in a world that always offers new occupations to children who respond to the call. The feature also contains autobiographical elements, as the director emigrated as a teenager from Belarus to Israel.

The film stars several Polish actors, including Tomasz Sobczak (The General - The Gibraltar Assassination). The team also includes DoP Adam Sikora (who recently won acclaim for his work on Essential Killing [+see also:

) and production designer Wojciech Zogala.

Igor and the Cranes’ Journey will be ready at the end of 2011 and international sales rights have been acquired by Spain’s Six Sales.
