Sarajevo Film Festival to open with Kaurismäki’s Le Havre

The Sarajevo Film Festival announced today that Aki Kaurismäki’s Le Havre [+see also:

will open its 17th edition, which runs from July 22-30.

Le Havre premiered in the competition of the Cannes Film Festival (read the review) and won the FIPRESCI award (read the news), and drew enthusiastic applause from both the critics and audience in Cannes.

The drama comedy about a shoe-shiner from the titular French port who tries to help an illegal child immigrant reach London features French actor André Wilms, who collaborated with Kaurismäki on his previous French-language film The Bohemian Life (1992), as well as on Juha (1999). Wilms will attend Sarajevo to present the film at the opening screenings in the National Theatre and !hej Open Air venues.
