Cinema is driving force of Italian entertainment industry

by

Among exhibitions, theatre, dance, concerts and sport, the film sector registered the best results in Italy in 2010, according to the Entertainment Industry Yearbook by the SIAE, presented today in Rome.

Indeed, it is above all thanks to the results attained in the cinema sector that entertainment box office spending rose last year by 3.97% compared to 2009, amounting to €2,370,000,000, with a total of 249m admissions (+3.85%).

In 2010, Italians spent €773m in movie theatres, that is 16.37% more than in 2009. The film sector is therefore the driving force of the Italian entertainment industry (followed by exhibitions and theatre), with positive signs in all areas: from the number of showings (2,500,000, +43.26%) and tickets sold (120,500,000, +10.39%, a level not seen since 1986) to box office spending, audience spending (€850m, about €100m more than in 2009, i.e. +14.33%) and turnover (€872m, +16.22%).
