Golino readies to shoot her directorial debut feature

by

After making an acclaimed behind-the-camera debut with her short film Armandino And Mother, which earned her the Nastro d'Argento Award 2011 for Best Debut Director, Greek-Neapolitan actress Valeria Golino (photo) has announced that she is taking the plunge with her directorial debut feature. The film will be adapted from the novel "Vi Perdono" (“I Forgive You”) by Angela Del Fabbro (the pen name of writer Mauro Covacich) and will tackle the theme of euthanasia.

''The film will deal with a very sensitive subject matter and I hope to be as free as possible to imagine it as I would wish. If we succeed, it will be made between the end of autumn and winter", said the actress, who was a guest yesterday at the first day of the Giffoni Film Festival (see news), the film event dedicated entirely to young audiences which is underway in Giffoni Valle Piana (Salerno) and will run until July 21.

The film will be produced by Buena Onda, the production company she founded together with her partner, actor Riccardo Scamarcio. ''We will get a small financial contribution from Rai, who have also given us some suggestions. But we’ll ask for very little money from everyone in order to be as autonomous as possible'', insisted Golino, who recently finished filming La Kryptonite Nella Borsa, another directorial debut by a Neapolitan artist, writer-screenwriter Ivan Cotroneo (see news).

"With Ivan, we spent two months filming in Naples and it was a wonderful experience", she said. "At first, I must confess, I was a bit perplexed, but only because I had to play a mother once again. I’ve often played this role and I was afraid I wouldn’t know how to reinvent myself. In the film, I play a woman who lives through the 1970s, is married to Luca Zingaretti and certain choices lead her to become a modern woman".
