It is amazing to see how the quality of Nordic filmmaking is continuously rising,” added Managing Director Katrine Kiilgaard, of Copenhagen-based Filmkontakt Nord, which stages the showcase. Sweden was in particular represented by an extraordinarily large number of outstanding productions, according to the committee.

In the competition for the Nordic Documentary Award, Sweden has nine selections, against Denmark’s four, Finland’s four, Iceland’s one and Norway’s two. Norway leads the contest for the Nordic Short Film Award with 10 entries, against Denmark’s six, Faroe Islands’ one, Finland’s five, Iceland’s three and Sweden’s eight.

Vying for the New Nordic Voices Award which goes to ”a new promising Nordic filmmaker” are four Swedish films, three Danish, three Finnish, two Icelandic and two Norwegian. A jury from Nordic regional film funds will decide the winner, while international juries will judge the other sections.

Besides the festival programme, Aarhus will host the Nordisk Panorama Market between September 24-27, presenting some 300 Nordic shorts and documentaries produced within the last year. Market Manager Jing Haase will welcome international festival programmers, distributors and buyers.

Between September 24-26, Nordisk Panorama Outlook will update filmmakers on the latest trends in the international market place. Key industry professionals including Research/Operations Manager Sharon Feigal of Rights Stuff (Netherlands) and internet chief Joël Ronez, of ARTE France will be among the speakers.
