Kinowelt takes name of parent company
Following the example of its UK counterpart Optimum Releasing, German distributor (theatrical, DVD, Blu-ray) and co-producer Kinowelt, which was bought out entirely by French group StudioCanal in 2008, will adopt the name of its parent company (see news) in five days time (on September 1). This is about showing "that we are a European studio", commented Kinowelt CEO Wolfgang Braun when the news was announced at the end of June.
This name change will be accompanied by a relocation to Berlin from the company’s superb building in the Saxon city of Leipzig. A total of 70% of the company’s employees, i.e. about one hundred people, will thus be moving to the capital.
