After 600,000 admissions in Scandinavia, Norway’s Headhunters go Stateside

, which has already been picked up for US distribution by Magnolia Pictures, will now be remade in the US, after Summit Entertainment picked up the English-language film rights from Sweden’s Yellow Bird Productions.

The original adaption of Norwegian author Jo Nesbø’s novel has exceeded 500,000 admissions domestically through Nordisk Film, and more than 100,000 in Denmark, as the most successful Norwegian release ever. TrustNordisk has licensed the film to 27 countries, including France, Germany and the UK.

”The deal with Summit gives us the opportunity to work with a stong partner who shares our passion for Nesbø’s story, and to continue establishing as producers in Hollywood sure films will reach as big an audience as possible,” said Yellow Bird's head of development Berna Levin.

A member of the Zodiak Media Group, the Swedish film and TV production outfit will produce the American Headhunters on behalf of Summit, with Marianne Grey (who produced the first version with Norway’s Asle Vatn, of Friland, in collaboration with Nordisk’s Lone Korslund) and Levin.

Having filmed the Millennium trilogy from Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s novels, Yellow Bird is co-producing the US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [+see also:

with Scott Rudin for Sony Pictures. Directed by David Fincher, the film will open later this year.
