The BAFTA film committee made the decision to choose Patagonia. The last time the UK entered a film in the category was Afghan Star in 2009-10. In all, the UK has entered nine films in the category, seven of which are Welsh. Hedd Wynn (1993) and Solomon and Gaenor (1999) won nominations but did not go on to win.
