The winners of the TorinoFilmLab 2011

With a Production Award for 80 thousand Euros, an Audience Award for 30 thousand Euros and the new Post-Production Award (1000 Euros) for its producer Marta Donzelli (Vivo Film), the Italo-Lebanese film Beirut, I love you by Gigi Roccati e Zena el Khalil (pictured) was the winner of the TorinoFilmLab 2011, of which the awards ceremony took place on Monday, November 28. A story of resistance and friendship between two women who are experiencing the current conflicts, from the war in Lybia to the 11th of September, which will be shot partly in Beirut and partly in New York.

The other four production awards (for a total of 520 thousand Euros) went to Romania's Touch me not by Adina Pintilie (150 thousand Euros), Pengfei Song's Underground Fragrance [+see also:

(France/Taiwan/China - 140 thousand), Alvaro Brechner's Mr. Kaplan (Uruguay - 100 thousand; the film also received a joint Audience Award for 30 thousand Euros) and Oscar Ruiz Navia's Los Hongos (Colombia/Francia/Messico - 50 thousand).

Standing out among the Script&Pitch projects, meanwhile, the Dutch-Belgian film Everything We Always Had Was Now by Martijn Maria Smits, a portrait of the first four years of a young couple's married life, which as well as winning a Development Award which will allow it to pursue its course in the Lab, won the new ARTE International Relations Award (6 thousand Euros). The other 5 other projects to win a Development Award are: Switzerland's War by Simon Jaquemet, France's Le Vent des ombres by Christelle Lheureux, Britain's Beast by Michael Pearce, then Rey by Niles Atallah (Chile/U.S.) and Tikkun by Avishai Sivan (Israel).

"An extraordinary edition, perhaps the best", commented the TFL Director, Savina Neirotti, hinting at a novelty for next year: "We are working on a new project on the cinematic adaptation of books, it will be called Adapt Lab and will be added to the four existing streams. As for the budget, we are just waiting for a confirmation".
