and Birdsong, Catalan director Albert Serra (pictured) wraps shooting in France today on Story of My Death. The director wishes to maintain an air of mystery around the cast, which includes non-professionals and figures from the cultural world (filmmakers, critics, painters, etc.).

The plot focuses on the transition between the 18th century (rationalism, the Enlightenment and sensuality) and the start of the 19th century (Romanticism, obscurantism and violence). Two famous characters embody these two worlds: Casanova and Dracula.

Scripted by the director, the film is set in France, in an atmosphere of debauched, artistic joyfulness. It traces the adventures of a mature Marquis, always accompanied by his servant in northern lands, in a small farming village surrounded by thick forests.

The Marquis is known for his spectacular sexual conquests. However, with the arrival of the Count, the atmosphere in the little village becomes more gloomy and oppressive, leading to the sudden, strange and mysterious ending.

Executive produced by Spain’s Andergraun Films and France’s Capricci Films, Story of My Death (a majority Spanish co-production) has received backing from the ICAA and the French regions of Pays de la Loire, Limousin and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The seven-week shoot has taken place in Romania and France (including at Bourgon castle in Mayenne, Ansouis castle in the Vaucluse and Beauregard castle in the Var). International sales are under negotiation.
