Shooting for Marco Risi’s new film, starring Luca Argentero (pictured), will begin in January in Rome. A political thriller about modern day Italy (the title remains top secret), which will tell "very powerful things" – stated the director, who yesterday collected the Città di Torino award at the Festival Sottodiciotto taking place in the capital of Piemonte – and where "everything which appears in one way at the beginning, will turn out to be quite different".

, the screenplay was co-written by Risi with Andrea Purgatori and Jim Carrington, and the plot, again according to the author’s words, ''will have something of Three Days of the Condor and Altman’s The Long Goodbye, as well as a bit of Chinatown''. The film is set in the present in the capital, the centre par excellence of powerful political and economic interests, and the story takes place over the course of four days.

The main character is Corso (Argentero), a young private detective and former policeman who is investigating an apparently straightforward case. "As he progresses, however, he will discover something much bigger", explains the director, "and he will find himself trapped in a web of strong political interests. Three deaths, which in the beginning will appear to be accidents or suicides, will turn out to be murders. The characters include a very powerful man and a stunning woman''. The film will also deal with phone tapping.

"I like to tackle this kind of film, because it’s not only through films that deal with social themes or openly aim to criticise which you can say things", commented Risi, who is already an author of highly regarded films that mix current events with social themes, such as Mery per sempre (1989), Il muro di gomma (1991) and Fortapàsc (2009). "The important thing is to be really committed when making a film, in order to do a good job. Because, if a politically engaged film is bad, it’s still not worth much''.

Risi’s new feature film is produced by Angelo Barbagallo (Bibi) and will be shot entirely in Rome over the course of eight weeks.
