Seim directs his own exit as Varg Veum, private eye
After 11 films from Norwegian author Gunnar Staalesen’s best-selling thrillers with Trond Espen Seim (pictured) starring as Varg Veum, Bergen private eye, SF Norge and CineMiso’s franchise has come to an end. Seim will direct his own exit, Cold Hearts, which will be launched domestically on March 30.
The 11th installment, Erik Richer Strand’s The Dead Have It Easy, is also on the release schedule (for January 20), and both were among the ten Norwegian premieres for the upcoming season which the Norwegian Film Institute presented at Oslo’s Film House. Last year, 40 new films sold 2.9 million tickets to control 24.5% of the market – the best result since 1975.
”Due to the financial crises several productions have been postponed in lack of finding international funding, so we are prepared for a small audience dip this spring. However, we expect a strong autumn, so the whole 2012 film catalogue still looks impressive,” said the institute’s Managing Director Nina Refseth.
The line-up includes Petter Næss’s Into the White (aka Comrade), a WW2 epic starring Florian Lukas, David Kross, Rupert Grint, Lachlan Nieboer and Stig Henrik Hoff. The first production from Zentropa Norway, out on 9 March, follows a German bomber and an English fighter crew seeking shelter from the winter in the same isolated cottage in the fjells, after an aircraft battle.
