Eyeworks Fine & Mellow signs Gabold as senior producer

When head of drama Ingolf Gabold (69) leaves Danish public broadcaster DR this spring, he will not go into retirement, having been signed as senior producer with Eyeworks Fine & Mellow, the new joint venture of Eyeworks Denmark A/S and Danish producer Thomas Gammeltoft producing feature films and television drama.

Gabold has been drama chief at DR for the past 12 years, during which he has launched such series as Unit 1, Nikolaj og Julie, Better Times, The Eagle and The Killing; during his reign, Denmark has won four Emmy Awards, the top honours of the American Academy of Television Arts and Science.

At Eyeworks Fine & Mellow Gabold – originally an educated musical composer – will work with with Gammeltoft and Managing Director Esben Halding on television drama and feature films; he will also, with Eyeworks Scandinavia, develop and launch drama productions on an international scale and for foreign markets.

“With Gabold’s expertise, we will enter enter the premier league of Nordic production houses - he has a major share in DR becoming one of the world’s most successful fiction and drama producing TV stations,” said Gammeltoft, who has made several features in collaboration with him.

One of the world’s top five independent production-distribution companies operating in 17 countries, Eyeworks Danish division – which was established last year - is currently working on Danish directors Per Fly’s Monica Zetterlund biopic and Henrik Ruben Genz’s US feature, Good People, expected to shoot this summer for Millennium Film Oy-Material Pictures.

It is also developing a Nordic dramady series, Flying High, as well as a host of features to film during 2013, including Genz’s adaptation of Danish author Henrik Strube’s novel, The Violin Builder and Danish director Jannik Johansen’s Tyson. Eyeworks Fine & Mellow is part of Eyeworks Scandinavia, contributing to its annual outlet of two-four features and three television series.
