Karlovy Vary reveals tributes and retrospectives

- Turkish director Reha Erdem will screen six of his films, while Jean-Pierre Melville and Michelangelo Antonioni are also honoured

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has revealed that Turkish director Reha Erdem (pictured) will attend the event to show six of his films. This tribute follows up last year's highly successful retrospective of Denis Villeneuve's works. With this particular tribute, the festival extends its homage to filmmakers with a significant style and approach who have only recently achieved international acclaim.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth, the festival will also screen a unique and full retrospective of documentary films shot by Michelangelo Antonioni. Alongside a number of short films, the audiences will get the opportunity to see the two-part Chung Kuo China, which was shot with the regime's approval in 1972. KVIFF´s Artistic Advisor Eva Zaoralova curates this section.

Films by Jean-Pierre Melville will be in the spotlight as well. “Film columnist and critic Rui Nogueira, author of the acclaimed collection of interviews Le cinéma selon Melville, will be on hand at the 47th KVIFF to introduce nine of the director’s pictures in the Melville tribute,” the festival has announced. In recent years retrospectives of Sam Peckinpah and Samuel Fuller have been lauded by both audiences and industry professionals attending the festival.

The event – one of the oldest of its kind in the world – will take place from June 29 to July 7 in the spa town of Karlovy Vary.
