Swedish, Finnish and Icelandic films in focus at Berlin’s Northzone festival
- Nordic features by Holm, Lindéen, Saleh, Jankeri and Sveinsson programmed for the Northzone festival’s "sonic nuggets and newcomer films" between April 4-8
Unspooling between April 4-8, Berlin’s Northzone festival will this year focus on Sweden, Finland and Iceland in its programme of "sonic nuggets and newcomer films" from “the vibrant and innovative film & music scene of the Nordic countries”.
Festival opener is Swedish director Hannes Holm’s archipelago thriller Beyond Blue Skies, about a young man (Bill Skarsgård - pictured) who gets a summer job at a hotel whose manager (Peter Dalle) is into shady business. The film was produced by Patrick Ryborn, for Fladen Film.
Swedish director Marcus Lindéen will screen his documentary Regretters, the Kristina Åberg production for ATMO Media Network about two men in their 60s discussing their sex changes, which won the national Swedish film prize, the Guldbagge.
Another two ATMO productions, Swedish directors Iacopo Patierno and David Giese’s We Call it Skweee, about Scandinavian electro, and Tarik Saleh's animated sci-fi drama Metropia, will be on show. Two of the Skwee artists will perform at the festival.
Finnish entries include Ville Jankari’s feature Sixpack [+see also:

film profile], one of last year’s top-grossing Finnish movies, and from Iceland Árni Sveinsson will screen Backyard, a documentary depicting the local musical scene with such acts as Múm, Hjaltalín, FM Belfast, Retro Stefson, Sin Fang Bous, Borko and Reykjavík!
